Blue Moon Diamond Dances Into Auction Wednesday

Sotheby’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction is on Wednesday and the headlining stone is the stunning Blue Moon Diamond.   Here’s a look at that and four other amazing colour diamonds set to go under the hammer at Wednesday’s sale.

1.  The Blue Moon – An Exceptional Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring

The cushion-shaped Blue Moon Diamond is the star of this auction with a pre-auction estimated sale of between $35.6 and $55.9 million (USD).   The Fancy Vivid blue stone measures in at a whopping 12.03 carats!

2.  Superb Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink Diamond Ring

The focal point of this stunning ring is a pear-shaped Fancy Vivid purple-pink diamond weighing in at 8.24 carats.  The piece also features white diamond shoulders and is expected to sell for between $16.6 and $21.9 million.

3.  Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond Ring

The only yellow diamond on our list, this 22.43-carat Fancy Vivid yellow stone is sandwiched between two white diamonds weighing in at 4.09 and 4.13 carats respectively.   Pre-auction estimates have the piece selling for between $1.7 and $2.1 million.

4.  Fancy Orangy Pink Diamond Pendant

This stunning pear-shaped diamond suspends a briolette Fancy orangy pink diamond weighing in at 15.20 carats.  When the hammer settles for this piece, it is expected to sell for between $1.2 and $2.4 million.

5.  Attractive Fancy Intense Blue Diamond Ring

The lesser known blue diamond in the auction is a 3.17-carat Fancy Intense pear-shaped stone with a surround of pink-tinted brilliant-cut diamonds.  The estimated auction sale price is between $1.2 and $1.8 million.

A Stunning Yellow Diamond Headlines Important Jewels Auction

Christie’s kicks off the fall auction season with the Important Jewels sale October 20 in New York City.   Here’s a look at the Top 5 Color Diamonds from the sale.

  1.  A Magnificent Colored Diamond

We wrote about this piece in length in a blog post written last month.   Put simply, this stone is a 75.56-carat Fancy Vivid yellow diamond and is expected to sell for between $3 and $4 million (USD).

2.  A Colored Diamond and Diamond Pendant Necklace

The focal point of the only necklace to make our list is a 36.23-carat pear-shaped brilliant-cut fancy brownish yellow diamond.   The stone features a white diamond surround and is suspended with a fine-link neck chain featuring a heart-shaped diamond and two circular-cut diamonds.   The piece is expected to sell for between $350,000 and $450,000.

3.  A Colored Diamond and Diamond Ring

A cut-cornered rectangular step-cut Fancy Dark yellow-brown diamond weighing in at 23.30 carats is the highlight of this stunning ring.   This main stone is flanked by a pair of trapezoid-cut white diamonds.  Pre-auction estimates for the ring have been set at between $250,000 and $300,000.

4.  A Colored Diamond and Diamond Ring

This amazing ring features a main stone that is a pear-shaped modified brilliant-cut Fancy Intense yellowish green diamond.   The diamond, which weighs in at 7.11 carats also features a circular-cut pink diamond surround.   The estimate for the ring is between $250,000 and $350,000.

5.  An Important Colored Diamond Line Bracelet

The only bracelet to make our list, this piece was designed by famed jeweler Tiffany & Co.   The piece is set with 22 square-cut yellow diamonds, weighing between 2.01 and 2.14 carats each.   The pre-auction estimate for the bracelet has been set between $200,000 and $300,000.

A Trio of Color Diamonds Up For Auction Wednesday

Sotheby’s of London is having their first jewelry auction of the spring and for color diamond fans, there are three pieces that are sure to catch their eye on Wednesday, March 18.

1.  Black Diamond and Diamond Ring

A 58.85-carat black diamond is the centrepiece of this ring, the stone is surrounded by a pave-set brilliant-cut black diamonds and white diamonds.   The ring is expected to sell for between $56,000 and $74,000 (CAD).

2.  Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond and Diamond Ring

A 3.04-carat Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond is the focal point of this ring with brilliant cut white diamonds surround.   Estimates have the ring selling for between $46,000 and $65,000 at Wednesday’s auction.

3.  Fancy Dark Greenish Grey Diamond Ring

A hefty 7.06-carat Fancy Dark Greenish Grey diamond is the centrepiece of a stunning ring which is the third colour diamond up for auction Wednesday.  The piece is expected to sell for between $16,000 and $24,000.

The First Big Jewelry Auction of 2015

The winter doldrums are still surrounding us, but the bright lights of color diamonds is beginning with the Sotheby’s Important Jewels Auction on Thursday, February 5 in New York City.

We take a look at the Top 5 color diamond pieces set to go under the hammer in the first large-scale jewelry auction of 2015.

1.  Platinum, Fancy Orangy Pink Diamond and Diamond Pendant Necklace

The centrepiece features a hefty 5.07-carat pear shaped Fancy Orangy-Pink diamond.   The stone is set on a platinum necklace set with round diamonds.  The necklace is expected to sell for as much as $500,000 (CAD).

2.  Platinum, 18K Gold, Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond and Diamond Ring

Expected to sell for between $231,000 and 347,000, the main stone of this 18k gold diamond ring is a modified brilliant cut Fancy Intense Yellow diamond weighing in at 10.02 carats.   The stone is flanked by two trapeze-cut diamonds weighing 2.00 carats.

3.  18 Karat Gold and Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Ring

A pear-shaped Fancy Intense Yellow diamond weighing 6.35 carats and flanked by 1.50 carats of pear-shaped white diamonds.  Industry experts expect the piece to sell for between $173,000 and $289,000.

4.  Pair of 18 Karat Gold and Colored Diamond Earstuds

The only earrings on the list, these feature cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut yellow diamonds weighing 5.10 and 5.00 carats.  The pieces are expected to sell for between $173,000 and $231,000.

5.  Platinum, 18 Karat Gold, Fancy Light Yellow Diamond and Diamond Pendant-Necklace

A heart-shaped 10.76-carat Fancy Light Yellow Diamond is the focal point of the piece with a platinum and 18-karat gold chain set with round diamonds.   The estimates have the necklace selling for between $144,000 and $173,000.

Top 5 Color Diamonds of 2014

The 2014 auction season has once again proved the ongoing appeal and increasing value of Natural Fancy Color Diamonds.   These precious stones were the high point of every jewelry auction around the world and the bids were absolutely mind-boggling.

Here is a look at the Top 5 Color Diamonds sold at auction this year.

1.  The Zoe Diamond

Part of the Mrs. Paul Mellon collection that was auctioned off by Sotheby’s in November, the Zoe Diamond sold for more than double the pre-sale estimate at $35.8 million (CAD).  That price set a new record for the largest sale of any blue diamond in auction history as well as setting the highest per-carat price for any diamond sold in auction history.

2.  The Winston Blue

The world’s largest flawless vivid blue diamond headlined Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva in May and the results did not disappoint fans of rare jewels.  The blue stone, weighing in at 13.22 carats, sold for $26.4 million.  The sale was made to famed jeweller Harry Winston who renamed the diamond “The Winston Blue”.

3.  A Stunning 8.41-Carat Purple-Pink Diamond

The star of Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale in August was this 8.41-carat Fancy Purple Pink Diamond ring.   The pear-shaped stone sold significantly over the pre-auction estimate with the final bid reaching $19.8 million.

4.  A Pair of Fancy Vivid Blue and Fancy Vivid Pink Diamond Ear Pendants

Designed by Bulgari, these amazing pendants feature a 6.95-carat Fancy Vivid Blue diamond and a 6.79-carat Fancy Vivid Pink diamond.   They were part of Christie’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction in November and sold for $18.6 million.

5.  The Graff Vivid Yellow Diamond

Rounding out the list was a massive cushion-cut, modified brilliant yellow diamond weighing in at 100.09 carats.   Selling for $17.8 million diamonds at Sotheby’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction in May, it set a new auction record for yellow diamonds.

 

Christie’s Million Dollar Magnificent Jewels

New York auction house Christie’s will be hosting their final jewelry auction of 2014 with their Magnificent Jewels auction on Wednesday, December 10.   Here’s a look at 5 color diamonds that are estimated to sell for over a million dollars at the sale.

1.  A Rare Colored Diamond & Diamond Ring

The largest color diamond of the sale, this ring features a massive 21.30-carat oval-cut Fancy Light pink diamond set within a single-cut diamond surround.   The high-end of the pre-auction estimate is set at a jaw-dropping $6.9 million (CAD)!

UPDATE:  The ring sold for just above the low end of the pre-auction estimate at $4.9 million

2.  A Spectacular Suite of Colored Diamond and Diamond Jewelrya_spectacular_suite_of_colored_diamond_and_diamond_jewelry_by_jahan_d5859607h-1

Designed by Middle East jeweler Jahan, this set includes a necklace, bracelet, ear pendants and a ring.   These stunning pieces include too many color diamonds to mention and are expected to sell for between $4 million and $5.7 million.

UPDATE:   Sold for $5.3 million

3.  A Colored Diamond and Diamond Ring

The lovely ring features a modified cut-cornered rectangular-cut Fancy blue diamond weighing in at 5.70 carats.  The stone is flanked by two tapered baguette-cut white diamonds.  Experts at the auction house have set the sale estimates at between $1.7 million and $2.9 million.

UPDATE:  Sold for $2.4 million

4.  A Rare Unmounted Colored Diamond

From the Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia, this stone is a rare red diamond weighing in at 1.42 carats.   The diamond, the third largest red diamond ever put up for auction, is a modified oval-cut fancy red and it is expected to sell for between $1.7 million and $2.9 million.

UPDATE:  Item sold for $2.5 million.

5.  An Important Colored Diamond Ring

This diamond ring’s centrepiece is a 14.28-carat marquise-cut fancy brownish pink diamond and mounted on white gold.   The pre-auction estimates have the piece selling for between $1.1 million and $2.3 million.
